Chicken with Chinese style gravy

We all love Chinese style gravy, be it with Chicken or Cottage Cheese. But the problem with Chinese style cooking is that one needs to first deep fry the main ingredients applying a coat of corn starch in it which many of us doesn’t like as deep frying is unhealthy.

Here I am giving you a recipe which taste exactly like Chinese style but is not unhealthy at all as we gonna use boil chicken here instead of a frying one. The rest process of making gravy will also require a very less amount of oil. So now you can enjoy the dish without any guilt and worries.

So.let’s get started 🙂




  1. Boiled chicken (Don’t over boil it , just two whistle in pressure cooker is sufficient enough)
  2. Corn flour powder
  3. Chopped onions
  4. Chopped Capsicum
  5. Ginger- Garlic paste 1 tbsp
  6. Oregano herb
  7. Spring leaves
  8. 5 pieces of chopped garlic (For gravy)
  9. Tomato Ketchup
  10. Soya Sauce
  11. Green chili sauce
  12. Red chili sauce
  13. Vinegar
  14. Schezwan Chutney
  15. Chopped green chili
  16. 2 tea spoon of sugar
  17. Salt (For taste)
  18. Oil (3 tbsp)


Step 1:

Wash chicken properly then boil it in pressure cooker and keep it aside for 10 minutes.

Step 2:

Take boiled chicken in a bowl, add Corn flour powder, red chili powder, ginger garlic paste, oregano herb, salt and 3 drops of lime juice in it.


Mix it well and let it marinate for about 20 minutes.

Step 3:

Heat a pan add oil(Depending upon chicken quantity, I have used only 3 tbsp here)

Add chopped onions, capsicum, Garlic cloves.

Once the vegetables becomes a little softer add marinated chicken in it and cover the lid for about 5 minutes on a low flame.



Step 4:

Add Soya sauce in it, mixed in 1 tea spoon of sugar and one tea spoon of schezwan chutney


Step 5:

Add  vinegar, Chili sauce(Green and red), Tomato ketchup in it, Mix well and  and cover the lid again for 5 more minutes

Step 6:

Add half cup water in it for the gravy and Salt (For taste)


Boil the mixture on a medium high flame for about 6-8 minutes.

Adjust the quantity of water as per desired consistency of gravy required.

I like this gravy to be little thick 🙂


Garnish with chopped spring leaves and Chicken in Chinese style gravy is ready 

Serve hot with Fried rice, It taste no less than a treat 🙂
